How often do you see an auction company write about how well a competitor does on a particular auction? Not often enough. Kudos Christies!
You have probably read everywhere today that Ms. Brody’s Pablo Picasso titled “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” broke a world record yesterday at Christie’s realizing $106.5M – the most expensive item sold at auction. According to their website, the total sale realized $224M. Wowza.
This is particularly exciting for us as we embark on our next auction with a lot of great fine art and design. Well, nothing in the caliber that Ms. Brody amassed over her lifetime, but more AFFORDABLE art and design!
As Peter wrote in the introduction to his auction catalogue “as the financial markets start to return to normal, I can’t help wonder if the art market isn’t a better place to invest”.
It would appear that the bidders at Christie’s thought so too.
